A NOTE TO ROYAL OAK CITY GOVT:

Dear Royal Oak City Officials,

As you can see, www.losethecruise.com was driven by common, irreverent points of view, 30 years in the making.

This event is gleefully billed by the media as the following: A one-day celebration of classic car culture that attracts over 1 million visitors, and more than 40,000 muscle cars, hot rods, custom cars, collectors and special interest vehicles.

That’s patently false or as my dear grandmother would say, total horseshit. I’m sure you’re aware of this.

The DREAM CRUISE is not just the 3rd weekend in August as advertised on their glorious website. There’s a partial truth to that claim. To be sure, it officially happens on the 3rd weekend in August. It also happens on the 1st, 2nd & 4th weekend in August, as well as all other months from April to October. That’s 7 full months.

It is, in fact, all summer long, every evening, every weekend, and unless it’s raining, often very late into the evenings. Your beloved Dream Cruise, scheduled for that one August weekend, has opened the flood gates for the majority of offenders satirized on losethecruise.com. Now we’re stuck with them and all the noise pollution they inflict with zero repercussion. This has been allowed to develop into an entire “Dream Cruise Season”.

Allow me to paint a picture: If the single Dream Cruise weekend in August is like having a routine case of the crabs, then the rest of our entire summer is like genital herpes. In both cases, they keep showing up in the same general area, and never seem to go away.

  • Why should we surrender our roads to this annual disruptive headache without speaking up?
  • Can the residents who are negatively impacted by this noise pollution, excessive gridlock, and street parking issues qualify for a property tax abatement?
  • How does this comply with noise ordinance laws/violation such as, The Noise Control Act of 1972?
  • Is it possible to establish ‘quiet hours’, perhaps 8pm to 8am?
  • Are you aware this gets worse every year as these everyday, all-season cruisers are allowed to run amok with no municipal guidelines?
  • Has a directive been issued by higher ups to limit cops from pulling over incredibly loud noise pollution perpetrators and drag racers?
  • Isn’t it sad, the only time we got a break from this convoy of congestion was during COVID? (that one was rhetorical)

On behalf of many fellow Royal Oaksters & surrounding communities, allow me to end with a Limerick.

There once was a Woodward Cruise,

Where old timers loved to schmooze.

But now all the noise, destroys summer joys,

So assholes can get on the news.

In summary, we’re not asking for a Congressional hearing. We’re asking for some relief from this perpetual summer long smoke out, or at a minimum, some common courtesy to include actual passing lanes. Perhaps you could help return the tranquility of Royal Oak, the crown jewel of Oakland County, back to a modicum of what it was. Allow us once again to enjoy it in its peaceful state of the good old-fashioned middle-finger road rage.

Please address this before all the complaints come in about the new Sheetz that was recently approved…But that’s another website.

We implore you,

Kindly enforce some actual rules, guidelines, policies, regulations, or bylaws for these Cruisers.

As for most locals, this is no Dream.

Otherwise please,

Lose The Cruise
